BUILDING ACCOMMODATIONS

ST. LOUIS LOCATION (Thomas F. Eagleton U.S. Courthouse)

Public access is located along 10th Street between Walnut & Clark Streets. Handicap ramps to the Courthouse are located on both the North and South side of the public entrance which provides access to the handicap door. The handicapped door is located on the North side of the public entrance and is equipped with an automatic door opener that opens by pushing the circular wall mounted door button.

Six public elevators provide access to all court floors and are large enough to accommodate wheelchairs or motorized scooters. The elevator cabs have braille signage and emergency call features that accommodate individuals with visual and hearing impairment. The building fire alarm system is equipped with speaker/strobe indicators.

The building is equipped with braille signage.

There is a handicapped accessible restroom on each court floor.

Handicapped parking is available at many parking establishments close to the building.

A lactation and baby-changing room is provided for nursing mothers, includes an electrical outlet, and is free from intrusion.  The lactation and baby-changing room is located on the first floor, adjacent to the cafeteria and public restrooms. The room is open during business hours. No reservations are necessary.

CAPE GIRARDEAU LOCATION (Rush Hudson Limbaugh, Sr. U.S. Courthouse)

From Independence Street, there is a circular driveway for pedestrian drop-off and pick-up on the East side of the building with a ramp that leads to the main entrance doors.  The public parking lot is located on the South side of Frederick Street and includes four handicap parking spots. From the public parking lot, there is a ramp that leads to the main entrance doors on the East side of the building next to Independence Street.  The main entrance has handicapped doors equipped with an automatic opener that activates by pushing a button.

Two public elevators provide access to all court floors and are large enough to accommodate wheelchairs or motorized scooters. HANNIBAL LOCATION (Hannibal Federal Building)

The East parking lot is accessible from 8th Street, and the West parking lot is accessible from Broadway Street. There are handicap parking spots in both the West and East parking lots. Both areas have ramps that will lead to the two handicap doors on the North side of the building. These doors will provide entrance into the Post Office and the main lobby. Both doors are equipped with automatic door openers from the outside as well as inside.

COURTROOM ACCOMMODATIONS

By mandate of the Judicial Conference, the Court is required to make reasonable accommodations for deaf and hearing-impaired participants that have proceedings before the court. Participants in a court proceeding are defined as parties, attorneys and witnesses. The required accommodations include sign language interpretation and assisted listening device equipment.

Sign Language Interpretation: Sign language interpretation services are available to court participants.  Arrangements should be made with the court at least two weeks prior to court proceedings.

Assisted Listening Device: Assisted listening devices that will increase the volume of the sound system during court proceedings are available in several courtrooms for hearing impaired participants. Participants needing an assisted listening device should speak with courtroom personnel for accommodations.

Virtual Hearing: If a hearing is conducted in a virtual format, the closed captioning option may be utilized to display the spoken word for hearing impaired participants.
